Yes you can get hot swap sata bays that let you swap drives while the system is powered on. The Sata controller must be running in AHCI mode.

Unraid doesn't technically fully support hot swapping hard drives. You'll need to down the array before swapping the drive within the OS. Upvote

I believe the SATA ports must be Hot-Swap not just Hot-Plugable for this to work. I think this should be done on a SAS capable system instead.
